Often times, people separate friendship and relationship which ought not to be. As a matter of fact, friendship is an embodiment of relationship that is very vital even as we perambulate this voyage called life. Everyone seeks to find a good friend, but no one ever wonders what it takes to be one. We are all quick to identify bad friends but slow as a sloth to realize we aren’t any better. Who we attract says a lot about who we are.
Majority of these people who are quick to point fingers oftentimes do not possess most of the qualities of a good friend. Of course! Bad friends are easily perceived when unmasked. But ever asked yourself why you only attract bad friends? Or better still ever sat down to carry out a cross-examination on yourself? Because oftentimes we might actually be the toxic one in this mutualistic relationship called friendship. You are looking for the qualities of a good friend, but do you have the qualities of one? Or no let’s take it slowly a bit. Do you even know who a good friend is?
A good friend is someone with which you share the same feeling of love, trust, and affection and have a strong attachment to, whether in good terms and best conditions or bad terms and worst conditions. According to Charles Caleb, he quoted “True friendship is like sound health, the value of it is seldom known until its being lost” A friend is someone held special, someone who’s dear to one’s heart. A friend is one of the nicest things you can have and one of the best things you can be. I would say “our friends are our estates”.
Charles Caleb “True friendship is like sound health, the value of it is seldom known until its being lost”
Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born. Friendship is like wine, raw when new, ripened with age, the true old man’s milk and restorative cordial.
Friendship is unnecessary like philosophy, like arts…….it has no survival value; rather it’s one of those things that give value to survival. The love of my life is the love between friends. Friends are God’s way of taking care of us.
Trying to widen your circle of friends may not seem too important because one good and loyal friend is worth ten thousand relatives they say. True, we need to be selective about the people we befriend. But that doesn’t mean narrowing our choices of friends to those of certain age and upbringing. Taking an interest in people of all ages, cultural background and nationality could truly enrich our lives.
The best part of one’s life consists of his friendship. To be depressed is to be lonely, to have a friend is to be happy. Friends are one of the most important ingredients in this recipe of life. “Don’t walk in front of me because I may not follow, don’t walk behind me because I may not lead, walk beside me and be my friend”. A hug is worth a thousand words but a friend is worth more. So, you tell me Are you a friend?
