One of the most important considerations during online registration for the NYSC is which states to choose. However, you don’t just choose any state you like. Instead, you have to choose according to the NYSC zoning formula. In this article we would be looking at NYSC Zoning and State Selection For Online Registration of Prospective Corp Members
Whether it is how to get your desired states during NYSC registration, NYSC states selection or “NYSC geopolitical zones” as some people call it, this post will give you some helpful information.
How to choose states during NYSC online registration
You will choose a maximum of four (4) states from different zones (see the zones below). Then, NYSC will post you to one of the states you choose.
However, note that there is no 100% guarantee that you will be posted to any of the four states you choose. Some candidates have been posted to states they didn’t even select during there online registration.
With that said, here are the four groups of zones to choose from, ONE STATE from each:
Choosing States of choice – NYSC Zoning
Zoning is a new registration procedures invented by NYSC which allows Prospective Corps Members to choose four (4) states they would like to serve. NYSC will post them to one of the four (4) chosen states.
How to choose States during NYSC online registration
You will only be allowed to select Four (4) states from the six (6) Geo-political zone in Nigeria. You may not select your State of origin and State of Institution for those who studied outside their state of origin. Only one state is to be selected from each zone.
Although, there are six (6) Geo-political zones in Nigeria, you may not choose 6 states, but only 4 states.

Since you will only be allowed to select 4 states, each from 6 geo-political ones, this is how it works.
You must choose one state from the North Central zone
Choose one state from either North East or North-West zones
Select one state from either South East or South-South zones and
Another one state from South West zone. Remember that from the 4 selected states,
- 1 State from the NC
- 1 State from either NE or NW
- 1 State from either SE or SS
- 1 State from the SW
