In 1999, Igbinedion Institution, Okada (IUO), a privately owned university in Nigeria, was created. The University is situated in Okada, the administrative centre of the Edo state’s Ovia North-East Local Government Area.
Sir Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion CFR, a well-known Benin Chief and multibillionaire philanthropist, created the university.
The National Universities Commission (NUC) and the appropriate professional organisations have accredited the University’s graduate and undergraduate programs.
