Federal Government Scholarships in Nigeria
1. Federal Government Scholarship Awards
Each year, the application opens for the Federal Government Scholarship Awards Tenable in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions.
The Honorable Minister of Education invites applications from qualified Nigerian students in Nigerian public tertiary institutions to participate in the selection interviews.
All undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered at Nigerian tertiary institutions are eligible for the scholarship. This implies that both science, art, and commercial students can apply for this scholarship.
Application Deadline: Varies each year.
2. BEA Scholarship Awards
This is Bilateral Educational Agreement (BEA) Scholarship Awards for Undergraduate, Masters and PhD Overseas.
The Federal Ministry of Education of Nigeria offers the Bilateral Educational Agreement (BEA) Scholarship Awards for Undergraduates, Masters and Ph.D. students to study in Russia, China, Cuba, Morocco, Algeria, Romania, Ukraine, Turkey, Egypt, Japan, Serbia, Mexico, Macedonia, e.t.c.

3. PTDF Scholarships in Nigeria
PTDF Scholarships in Nigeria & Overseas (UK & France) for Undergraduate, Masters & PhD.
The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), a parastatal of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources invites applications from suitably qualified candidates yearly for Undergraduate, as well as, Masters (MSc) and PhD Scholarships under the PTDF Scholarship Scheme.
You get up to N200,000 yearly and a brand new laptop if you’re offered a PTDF Undergraduate scholarship. It is a scholarship you can’t afford to miss. A friend of mine still uses his PTDF Laptop to date.
The PTDF Scholarship is awarded for studies in the United Kingdom, France and upgraded Universities in Nigeria. However, the Undergraduate level will be awarded for studies in Nigeria only.
State Government Scholarships in Nigeria
4. Rivers State Governor’s Scholarship
Rivers State Governor’s Special Overseas Undergraduate Scholarship for Indigenes and Non-indigenes (no offered for a very long time).
The Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) used to invite applications from suitably qualified candidates for selection in the State Government Special Overseas Undergraduate Scholarship Programme. However, this scholarship has not been ongoing for some time. I hope that this scholarship returns soon.
5. Lagos State Scholarship Award
The Lagos State Government offers both Local and Foreign scholarships to indigenes and residents. This is a scholarship for primary school pupils, secondary schools, polytechnics, colleges of education, university students, masters and PhD students.
Local Scholarship: This is for prospective students of Lagos State origin except otherwise directed by His Excellency. Students should be on full-time and not part-time studies in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Foreign Scholarship: This award is designed for students of Lagos State origin admitted for undergraduate or postgraduate programs in recognized tertiary institutions outside Nigeria. The Lagos government website is www.lagosscholarship.org

6. Agbami Scholarship
The Agbami Scholarship for 100 and 200 Level Undergraduate students is the surest scholarship in Nigeria. If you applied for the Agbami scholarship, there is a high chance that you won’t get it so long you’re shortlisted. This scholarship is worth N150,000 per session until you graduate.
Star Deep Water Petroleum Limited, a Chevron company, and operator of the Agbami Field, in its continuous support for capacity building in the health and engineering sectors as a strategic feed into the national manpower pool, offers a number of University Scholarship Awards to qualified Nigerian students of ALL the states of the Federation.

7. Agip Scholarships
Agip Scholarships for Undergraduate Nigerian Students is another hot cake scholarship in Nigeria.
The Nigerian Agip Oil Company Limited offers Tertiary Institutions Scholarship Awards Scheme for Undergraduate Nigerian 100-level Students.
Only candidates studying Engineering, Geology and Geosciences are eligible for the National Merit Award. For the Host Community merit Award (for students from Bayelsa, Delta, Imo and Rivers states,) other fields of study may be considered.
8. Mobil Nigeria Scholarship
Mobil Nigeria Scholarship for Undergraduate Students is another scholarship everyone wants to apply for. Getting schortlisted for this scholarship is not a bad idea at all.
The Mobil Nigeria National UndergraduateScholarship Awards is open for students in Nigerian Universities. The scholarship is available to qualify and suitable students from every state of the Federation including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
9. Shell Scholarship for Nigeria Students
This is the “biggest scholarship in Nigeria”. By all means, get the shell scholarship. This scholarship pays you, assigns you to mentors in shell, gives you the opportunity to do your internship at shell Nigeria and exposes you to the industry.
The Shell scholarship program aims to promote academic excellence and improve the skills base among young Nigerians. You will be proud of yourself if offered a shell scholarship.
The Shell Nigeria Exploration Production Company (SNEPCo) National Merit University Scheme is open for undergraduate students in Nigerian universities. The merit-based scholarship is open for full-time undergraduates studying select engineering and science courses.

Every year, Nigeria LNG Limited opens the application for Nigeria LNG Undergraduate Scholarship Award for first-year Undergraduate students in Nigerian universities. The application usually starts in the second half of the year. LNG Scholarship is a hot cake.
The Nigeria LNG Undergraduate Scholarship Scheme started in 1998 as part of Nigeria LNG Limited’s Corporate Social Responsibility to Nigerian Citizens to enhance human capacity development.
11. Total Nigeria Scholarship
I remember the day Total paid the University of Benin (UNIBEN) engineering students. They were so happy and it made my day. I was worth celebrating. This shows that total scholarship is real and you don’t want to miss the application.
Each year, Total Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited (TEPNG) demonstrates a high level of commitment towards the educational development of Nigerian Students through its annual award of scholarships to deserving Nigerian students in secondary and tertiary institutions as well as those in postgraduate studies.
12. Addax Petroleum/NNPC Scholarship
Addax Petroleum Development (Nig) Limited offers the National Tertiary Institutions Scholarship Awards Scheme for full-time 100-level undergraduate students in any Nigeria Universities, Polytechnic or College of Education.

13. NPDC/SEPLAT Scholarship
I got shortlisted for this one. Seplat scholarship is sure and you’re well paid. The aptitude test is usually Online and The scholarship awards are usually open to qualified and interested second-year undergraduates of Nigerian Public Universities.
The Nigerian Petroleum Development Company Limited and Seplat Petroleum Development Company Plc Joint Venture as part of its Corporate Social Investment Programme has commenced its inaugural Undergraduate Scholarship Awards.

14. MTN Foundation Scholarships
I got shortlisted for the MTN Scholarship after writing MTN Scholarship essay on the chosen topic. I could write the scholarship exam as it coincided with my school exam and I couldn’t travel down to Abuja.
A few of my coursemates sacrificed their exams and wrote the scholarship. Some actually got the scholarship and were well paid. It is no joke, MTN foundation pays 200k (Two hundred thousand Naira) to scholarship beneficiaries.
The MTN Foundation, Nigeria offers its MTN Foundation Science and Technology Scholarships for Undergraduate students in various fields of studies tenable at Nigerian tertiary institutions.
MTN Foundation Scholarships will be renewed for the existing students provided they have maintained a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5 or its equivalent (second class upper/upper credit).
15. MUSTE Scholarships (JIM OVIA)
The Mankind United To Support Total Education (MUSTE) is a Scholarship arm of Youth Empowerment and ICT Foundation. It is founded and funded by Mr. Jim Ovia in the year 1998, to provide financial aid to outstanding Nigerian youths.
16. Gani Fawehinmi Scholarships Award
Each year, the Gani Fawehinmi Scholarship Board announces Four Million Naira Scholarships For 20 to 40 Nigerian Students in Nigeria tertiary institutions. The scholarship is tenable at Nigerian higher institutions including Universities, Polytechnics and College of Education

17. David Oyedepo Scholarships
Oydepo is a well-respected Bishop in Nigeria. The man of God offers scholarships to students in addition to equipping his Covenant University which is one of the best higher institutions in Nigeria.

18. NWAG Scholarship for Nigerian Women
Each year the Nigerian Women Association of Georgia -NWAG- offers undergraduate Scholarships for 37 Nigerian female students (one per state of origin) in Nigerian universities on any course of study, in the amount of fifty thousand Naira (N50,000)
